As an executive, consultant and venture investor, John has substantial and broadly-based domestic and international business experience. He frequently taps his wide range of contacts in the US, Canada, Western Europe and India. He was President of Applied Strategies Ltd, a management consulting and early-stage venture investment company (high tech and other knowledge-based businesses). Prior to joining Applied Strategies, John was Director of Business Planning and Market Analysis for MacMillan Bloedel Limited, then Canada's largest forest products company and now
part of Weyerhaeuser. In his 14 years with MB, he was also involved in new product development, acquisitions and divestitures, development of management decision systems and major capital approvals. His tenure at MB followed management and consulting positions in Montreal, London (UK) and Los Angeles.
He was one of the architects of what became The Strategic Leadership Forum, the leading
professional strategic planning / management society in the US and Canada.
John was born and raised in Vancouver, graduating from UBC with a Bachelor of Commerce (First Class). He earned his MBA (Honors) at UCLA before pre-doctoral studies at the LSE (London School of Economics).
